THE SHABBY CHATEAU STORY
Shabby Chateau is a full-service interior design firm located in Youngstown, Ohio, with specialties in residential interior design and styling, staging, consulting, personal shopping and accessorizing. Shabby Chateau is a Certified Interior Decorators International, Inc. firm.
Little did Jo Anne Brashen know when, at the age of 34 with a career in the financial world, that she would design her and husband Randy’s home. Being very specific in their search for a home, Jo Anne and Randy, after months of house hunting, decided to build. Finding the right style but not the right floor plan to match, Jo Anne took the helm of the project and became the general contractor. She created the floor plan for a two-story barn-style home and oversaw the whole process. Not only did she supervise the build and work with the local Building Department, she learned many new skills along the way.
Her passion to continue to create and re-create over the years made it a fairly easy decision when a friend urged her to start an interior design business after her 40-year career as a Financial Adviser. She earned her CID (Certified Interior Decorators) license and enjoys the variety afforded in working with clients of many different tastes.

Drafting the design plans for her own home over 30 years ago was a huge leap of faith for Jo Anne Brashen– and ended up fueling her passion for everything about home furnishings. However, being blessed with a career that she loved as a Financial Adviser meant that Jo Anne’s passion for design usually had to take a back seat. Over the years, Jo Anne expressed her creativity and eye for design through projects for herself, friends and family, including everything from painting furniture and white-washing walls, to redoing rooms and designing a two-story barn. And after more than a year of interior design conversations, Jo Anne decided to make her design dreams a reality by starting Shabby Chateau.
